Zuheir Dabbagh

Zuheir Dabbagh was born in Aleppo in 1953 and studied at Damascus University …graduation project was about the massacre of Tal al-Zaatar (1976). He is best known for both his bronze and clay sculptures, which are rooted in classical techniques, whereas his colorful paintings convey contemporary influences. In both media, he focuses on human figures, captured in a variety of day-to-day poses such as a man carrying a ladder, a couple embracing, or a wistful woman sitting on a wooden block. Whilst the scenes he depicts deal with everyday situations, his use of color in his paintings is innovative and playful and rendered in an impressionistic style. Since the 1970s he has participated in numerous exhibitions and several of his works are exhibited in the permanent collections of the Damascus Museum, as well as in private collections in Ankara, Dubai, Germany, KSA, Paris, and Canada.
