Born in the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon, Salwa Zeidan is an international artist, painter, sculptor and curator. She left Lebanon in the 1980s and settled in the United Arab Emirates where she has contributed significantly to the regional art scene by opening the first contemporary art gallery in Abu Dhabi, in 1994, focusing on showing Emirati, Middle Eastern and international artists. Working in multiple media including painting, mixed media, sculptures, and installations, Zeidan creates conceptual works that border on abstract minimalist art and calligraphic gestures rendered in a dark palette. Her curvaceous brushstrokes can be noticed clearly in her sculptural works, most notably in her Black Spiral series, which reflect strength, freedom and movement at the same time. Her work was extensively exhibited worldwide and can be found in many private collections around the world. Throughout her career, she acquired many awards, in Lebanon, UAE and Italy. The artist continues to live and work in Abu Dhabi.
