Rim El Jundi

Born in Beirut in 1965, Rim El Jundi studied religious art at the University of the Holy Spirit in Kaslik and fine art at the Lebanese  American University, where she was awarded The Sheikh Zayed Graduation Award from the Lebanese American University in 1997. Her artistic training is reflected in her paintings, which are characterized by their vivid colors and composition often found in stained-glass windows and include motifs found in paintings of classical icons. Her paintings are nevertheless executed in a contemporary style that is reminiscent of pop art, offering a unique portrayal of Beirut and its inhabitants that raises questions about the sociopolitical realities of the city.  Her works are permanently exhibited at Galerie Janine Rubeiz, Beirut and she has participated in numerous exhibitions including the Alexandra Biennale in 1997 and at Cork Street gallery in London, in 2004.  El Jundi’s received acknowledgment from the jury at the Alexandria Biennale and ‘Prix de Triangle Art pour one residence d’artiste’ at Vermont Studio Centre, 2005, sponsored by the Ford Foundation.
